Welcoming Brittany Hiscock to CHHA-NL

Please join us in welcoming Brittany Hiscock, Facilitator of Programs and Services to the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Newfoundland and Labrador.

Brittany completed a Bachelor of Arts in 2012 and a Bachelor of Social Work in 2015.  Her social work field placements were in a hospital setting and in a non-profit organization. From those field placements, Brittany realized she loved working in the community and non profit organizations.  She felt there were more opportunities to be creative in helping people, the programs were easier for people to access and that there was more opportunity to help people when they really needed someone.

“So far I have really enjoyed learning about hearing loss, the challenges people face and how CHHA-NL helps them overcome those challenges. I like learning about the Hearing Assistive Technology and talking to clients, families and the Resource groups and learning from all of them”.

Brittany has volunteered and worked with children and youth and their families in a variety of settings. She volunteered with a group for socially isolated children and has also worked with families providing support and care during difficult times. Her non-profit experience comes from a field placement in a women’s centre where she helped with their programs and got to meet lots of women facing different challenges and was able to support them through the programs offered at the centre.

Brittany’s new role at CHHA-NL allows her to work with many of our members through the Resource Groups and Youth Programming

“I am very excited as I will be developing lesson plans and Facilitating the LEAP! youth leadership program . I plan to help students develop leadership, advocacy, assertiveness, communication skills, among other things which they will be able to use to help them succeed in school, the community and in their future careers. I will also be working with the Resource groups, providing support and helping to plan social events. I will also be doing presentations to grade 4 students in our province, to teach them about hearing, and I will be doing some administration work with the different funding programs CHHA-NL offers”.

We are excited to have Brittany as part of our team.
