Job Description

Position:                    Facilitator of Education and Promotion

Position type:            One year contract position

Responsible to:        Director of Programs and Services

Objective:                  It is expected that the incumbent will adhere to, practice and promote hard of hearing and late-deafened philosophy and principles; support existing programs and services of the association and be directly responsible for the provision of Public education and awareness for the Association.

 

Education Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate public display and presentation opportunities on general hearing loss in the Avalon Region of the Province.
  2. Seek, plan and facilitate grade 4 and other school presentations in the greater St. John’s region of the Province.
  3. Facilitate and promote public awareness of CHHA-NL events, Programs and services and issues related to hearing loss.
  4. Develop education and awareness articles and advertising for the Association, and seek opportunities for publication in various and applicable forms of media (excludes fundraising ie. The Dream Home Draw).
  5. Develop and circulate association Newsletters (monthly E-Newsletter and quarterly printed Newsletter) and manage contact database
  6. Any other duties as needed or identified by the Director of Programs and Services and the Executive Director.

 

Promotion Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Act as media/community circulation contact for the promotion of CHHA-NL events and hearing loss awareness issues. This includes: invitations to the press (with follow-up) for events, development and distribution of press releases, and seeking feature stories from the media on hearing loss.
  1. Network with other associations and organizations and participate in an advisory capacity on external committees, where applicable.
  1. Maintain and manage Association Web site, Information Technology, and Social Media.
    • Manage and maintain the association’s Web site and Web site content.
    • Create new web site features and functions as necessary
    • Develop, manage and maintain Association Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
    • Plan and promote association webinars
  1. Update CHHA-NL and CHHA 333 memberships, maintain database and send welcome package.
  1. Oversee the maintenance of all records for programs for which the position is responsible including financial records and budget forecasting.
  2. Facilitate presentations, workshops and or educational seminars on a variety of subjects related to hearing loss and/or hearing loss prevention, as deemed qualified by Director of Programs and Services.
  1. Carry out coordinator responsibilities for the Noise: It all adds up project, under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Services.
  1. Participate in professional development and education/training as deemed necessary by the Director of Programs and Services.
  1. Participate in various committees and working groups of the Association as required.
  1. Attend CHHA-NL staff and board meetings as required
  1. Compile and distribute reports to the Director of Programs and Services and Executive Director as required
  1. Assist other staff with the development and delivery of programs and services when required.
  1. Any other duties as needed or identified by the Director of Programs and Services and the Executive Director.

General Program and Services Duties:

  1. Recruit, process, train, facilitate and supervise general volunteers including record keeping and volunteer recognition/volunteer week activities (April). This includes the higher tier volunteer category of Hearing Helpers.
  2. Assist Programs and Services Staff with Special Events.
  3. Maintain Loans Program returns including logging in and cleaning devices as well as managing overdue loans.
  4. Any other duties as needed or identified by the Director of Programs and Services and the Executive Director.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  1. University degree or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience.
  2. Strong organization, time management and facilitation skills
  3. Excellent communication (verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills.
  4. Strong computer knowledge and skills, particularly in the area of web site maintenance, word processing, database management, electronic presentations, email, social media & desktop publishing.
  5. Knowledge and/or experience with web page maintenance and construction
  6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team
  7. Access to a vehicle and be a valid driver as per CHHA-NL policy (proof of a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance and registration).
  8. Experience developing education and awareness materials an asset
  9. Experience with communications and marketing an asset
  10. Experience managing volunteers an asset.
  11. Comprehensive knowledge about, and supportive of Canadian Hard of Hearing Association philosophy and practical application of same.
