This fall we will be offering lots of free online learning opportunities in place of our usual in-person group meetings or presentations. We are doing this in an effort to maintain physical distancing and the spread of Covid-19 to our participants and staff, but also to offer learning opportunities province-wide.

Please find below is a listing of upcoming webinars and links to register for individual webinars. You must register to receive connection information to join the webinar.

Sept.17 Advanced Bionics 2 PM

This webinar will be presented by an audiologist from the cochlear implant company “Advanced Bionics”. Topics covered in this webinar include: latest cochlear implant technology offered by this company, an explanation of the CI and hearing aid combination, and strategies to improve hearing with any assistive device. This webinar will be useful not only for individuals with advanced bionics products, but anyone thinking about getting a cochlear implant or members of our cochlear implant resource group who help support new cochlear implant users and family and friends of cochlear implant users.

Wondering about hearing aids? This webinar will give you the information you need to decide if hearing aids are the right choice for you or a family member. An Audiologist, will cover all you need to know about hearing aids. Some of the topics covered in this webinar include: the importance of treating hearing loss, advantages of today’s hearing aids, the process of finding out if hearing aids are right for you, hearing aid features and connectivity, how to have the best experience with hearing aids and much more.

About the Presenter: Quenton Currie is an Audiologist in private practice in St. John’s, NL. During Mr. Currie’s career he has been a clinician with Eastern Health, a Canadian educator and trainer for the hearing aid manufacturer, Oticon and since 2011, he and his wife operate a combined hearing and speech clinic in St. John’s.

 

 

 

Oct. 22 Cochlear 2 PM

This webinar will be presented by an audiologist from the cochlear implant company “Cochlear”. This webinar will include different guest speakers covering topics related to what technology Cochlear has to offer, different connectivity options of their cochlear implants and information for people who are due to have their current Cochlear CI upgraded. This webinar will be useful not only for individuals with Cochlear products, but anyone thinking about getting a cochlear implant or members of our cochlear implant resource group who help support new cochlear implant users and family and friends of cochlear implant users.

 

 

Nov.19 MED-EL 2 PM

This webinar will be presented by an audiologist for the cochlear implant company MED-EL. This webinar will cover information for individuals upgrading their current cochlear implant as well as information about what products they have to offer for new cochlear implant users. This webinar will be useful not only for individuals with MED-EL products but anyone thinking about getting a cochlear implant or members of our cochlear implant resource group who help support new cochlear implant users and family and friends of cochlear implant users.

 

 

 

Nov.26 The Effect of Tinnitus on Mental Health 2 PM

This webinar will be presented by mental health counselor, Soraya Carrim. Soraya will discuss the effects tinnitus has on an individuals mental health, strategies to cope, and how counseling can help.
